Perimenopause & Menopause Workshop - Women's Health.

Pilates 44 Studio in collaboration with Miriam Rose Natural Health recently ran the 2nd Perimenopause & Menopause workshop. Such a unique and quite misunderstood topic that really can be quite daunting, confusing and frustrating for many women.

Perimenopause or our “second puberty” – aptly described by Lara Briden in her book, The Hormone Repair Manual, as being – the two to ten years before the final period. It's different from menopause, which is the life phase that begins one year after the final period. The normal age for the final period is anywhere from 45 to 55 so the normal age for perimenopause is up to ten years before that—as young as 35’. This workshop came about through conversations with Studio clients over the past year or so. It started with noticing similarities in client concerns such as plantar fasciitis, arthritic changes in the thumb region, lethargy, insomnia, cognition and memory difficulties with a big one not being able to differentiate right and left.

The other factor that brought them together was their age and that they had been experiencing symptoms for years and are still experiencing them. The median age for our Studio clients is 55. Can you imagine dealing with thoughts of ‘maybe I am going crazy’ for 10 years?

It wasn’t until a friend gave me a copy of The Hormone Repair Manual that I found some real in depth and highly relatable information. I certainly wasn’t on my own and nor were my client’s.

This is also why the decision was made to include a copy of this, what I like to term, a Women’s Hormone Bible, in the workshop.

The final feather in the cap was when Miriam approached me in 2021 with the idea of complementing each others businesses, given that both of our focus is heavily in Women’s Health specifically around hormonal changes as we age. It was a great opportunity to also add Nutritional needs to the Workshop alongside movement designed for learning to calm the nervous system and adrenals, move the lymphatic system along with subtle resistance work to focus on whole core strength for posture and bone health (glutes the major contributor to posture).
