We thought that it could be helpful to gather a few of our FAQs and pop them in one easy to access area.


There are always questions about Pilates - from what is it to why does it cost so much. With so many variables in-between as fitness centres and allied health join the list to offer Pilates classes, below are some questions that we have had over time.


FAQ#1 - Why is Pilates 44 Studio different


Our Studio is Bathurst's first and, to date, only fully equipped Pilates Studio. We run as a Pilates Studio with a focus on Quality not Quantity.


Our teachers are Australian Government Certified Pilates Professionals with years of experience training, practicing and teaching Pilates. Our Studio manager holds a Diploma in Comprehensive Pilates Instruction. Both hold membership with the Pilates Alliance of Australasia , current First Aid & CPR certifications, Australian Government WH&S training and professional indemnity insurance.

Classes are very intimate, working in the following settings:

· Studio 1.1 Utilizing all Studio equipment

· Semi Private (1.3) Reformer & Equipment

· Semi Private Mat & Small Props (1.4)

Programs are designed personally by your teacher, around your needs in the session regardless of the setting. It takes skill and deep knowledge of biomechanics and physiology to read the human body walking in and know exactly what is needed holistically for that persons overall needs.


FAQ #2 - Why does it cost so much


Becoming an Australian Government Accredited RTO Pilates teacher is one of the biggest investments financially, mentally and physically that you will undertake in your Pilates career.

There are many courses available and whilst it may be tempting to get everything done sooner and at less financial investment, in the end you will not come away with a Nationally or Internationally Recognised Certification.

It can take up to 4.5 years to be fully qualified at Diploma level. Not to mention the investment in quality Pilates equipment and Studio set-up plus on going education. You get what you pay for.

A QUALITY Pilates Studio will cost any where from $110 - $150 an hour for 1.1 Studio Sessions and up to $50 per session for semi private (1.3) sessions. Pilates classes should be intimate for a greater focus on attention to detail for the body's specific needs during that session.

FAQ #3 - I take Pilates classes with my Physiotherapist. Is that the same thing?


This is a very good question. In short yes, provided they have undertaken the relevant Australian Government training through a Registered Training Organisation specific to Pilates including completing the required hours of training and comprehensive examinations.


Pilates has become such a popular ‘addition’ to Allied Health practices that terminology such as ‘Clinical Pilates’ or ‘Pilates Informed Exercise’ is used quite widely by many Allied Health practitioners, Physiotherapists are one. To become a fully qualified Pilates teacher requires in depth training around the Pilates methodology including; an in depth history about Pilates - where it came from and why it came about. The correct use of all of the Studio equipment as well as physiology and biomechanics.


Physiotherapy is its own Allied Health practice. The APA offers short courses that ‘outline’ Pilates but do not teach the depth of knowledge required by our Australian Pilates Industry Bodies. We are specialised within our field of teaching Pilates while Physiotherapists are specialists within their field.


FAQ #4 - I take Pie-Late's at my gym.


Sadly this is not Pilates. They are great fun group led classes with anywhere up to 30 or more people in a session generally led by a group fitness instructor. Quality of technique and movement prescription cannot be regulated or controlled in these settings.


FAQ #5 - Aren't Pilates & Yoga the same thing?


No, they are completely different from one another but can compliment each other nicely. We understand that Yoga focuses on flexibility and mobility, while Pilates focuses on the development of core control, stability and the creation of dynamic, functional total body movement. Through Pilates, one will develop postural strength and endurance as well as mobility and flexibility. Through movement we also benefit and create efficiency in all systems of the body including vascular, respiratory, endocrine and digestive.

Do your research into a Studio you are looking to join. Perhaps take a casual session (if available) to get a 'feel' if it is what you are looking for. Check that the teachers are qualified under Australian standards with PAA or APMA to teach Pilates and use the Pilates equipment in a safe and knowledgeable manner. Enjoy your Pilates.
